Off-Track Events Spice Up ARCA Throwback Weekend at Salem

The ARCA Throwback Weekend at Salem Speedway fueled by the Hoosier Lottery culminates with Saturday night's ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic 200, but the activities kick off with a pair of fan-friendly off-track events on Friday.

Several racing personalities will compete against each other, and against racing fans as well, in the annual ARCA Throwback Charity Golf Scramble at the Western Hills Golf Club, which is located adjacent to the backstretch of the speedway. The best-ball tournament tees off at 8 am ET on Friday, and race teams and fans can register with Salem Speedway up until the day of the event.

Later that evening, the activity moves to downtown Salem for the annual Friday Night in the Square festival. There will be several race-themed displays, food trucks, crafts, games, kids activities, and an ARCA driver autograph session from 6 to 7 pm ET.

Special for this year's festival will be Ramo Stott's No. 7 Plymouth Superbird, brought from Milwaukee to Salem by current owner Doug Schellinger.

"The car does run and it's drivable," Schellinger said. "It does have tires that are 45 years old, however, so it's probably not going to set any track records. It'll be on display at the street festival, and we may make some parade laps with it on Saturday night as well."

Event Grand Marshall, local racing legend, Charlie Glotzbach, an eight-time winner in both the ARCA Racing Series and a four-time winner in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, is expected to be in attendance on Friday night as well.

Practice is set for 1 pm ET, with General Tire Pole Qualifying slated for 4 pm ET, the one-hour on-track driver autograph session is set for 5:45 pm ET, and the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic 200 will go green at 7:15 pm ET. There's also a good chance on Saturday at the track we will have a vintage Ford Torino Talladega #98 NASCAR Cup car driven by LeeRoy Yarbrough alongside Doug Schellinger's Ramo Stott Superbird. Very cool additions to the ARCA Throwback Race at Salem Speedway.
