On Point Motorsports Looks to Add ARCA to 2019 Racing Schedule

On Point Motorsports, which has competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2018, has built an ARCA superspeedway car and is planning to test and race in the 2019 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season opener at Daytona International Speedway.

The team, led by veteran crew chief Steven Lane, has made four NCWTS starts so far in 2018, with drivers Scott Lagasse, Jr., Jeb Burton, and 2017 ARCA Racing Series champion Austin Theriault. Theriault scored the team's first top-ten finish when he crossed the stripe eighth at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

"We'd like to take our Truck program full-time in 2019," Lane said. "We have had an opportunity to add an ARCA and K&N Pro Series component to the team next year too. We have a new superspeedway car that we are putting a Toyota body on right now that we are planning on taking to the ARCA test at Daytona in January, and if things go well, we'll run it in the race too."

Lane has considerable experience in the sport, serving as crew chief for drivers Kyle Petty, Jeremy Mayfield, and David Stremme, among others.

The team currently has ten full-time employees, with plans to double by the start of 2019.

"We've been waiting on adding employees until after Homestead," Lane said. "We're going to take Jeb down and run the final Truck race of the year, and then we expect a lot of pretty good talent to be on the market. We're going to find the best people available and make the team as strong as we can headed into 2019."

Lane has had discussions with several drivers about ARCA opportunities in 2019.

"We've had several good conversations with some drivers that want to get approved for Daytona and beyond," Lane said. "We'd like to become a driver development destination, with a chance for a driver to come in and race in the K&N Pro Series, transition up the ladder to ARCA and then to Trucks."

The 2019 season for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards unofficially kicks off with pre-season testing at Daytona International Speedway on Friday and Saturday, January 11 and 12. ARCARacing.com will have live timing and scoring for registered users.
