Major League Stock Car Racing Returns to Twin Cities: ARCA at Elko Set for July 13, 2019

Major-league stock car racing will once again return to the Twin Cities in 2019 when the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will once again go to battle for 250 laps on the tight confines of Elko Speedway on Saturday, July 13. The 0.375-mile oval is the the shortest track on the series schedule.

The ARCA Racing Series will be the marquee event of the track's 2019 schedule that includes the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, several Eve of Destruction events, and the annual Thunderstruck 93. There is also a drive-in movie theater on the track property, one of only six in operation in the state of Minnesota.

Gus Dean, driving for Win-Tron Racing and team owner Kevin Cywinski, won the 2018 event at Elko. Dean muscled Joe Graf, Jr. out of the way with two laps to go to take his only win of the season. Win-Tron, now based in the Charlotte, N.C. area, had been previously based just a few miles from Elko Speedway before relocating, and team owner Cywinski has numerous late model victories at the track.

“I feel like Elko Speedway is one of those pinnacle grassroots short tracks in the Midwest that provides great racing and the opportunity for exciting finishes," Cywinski said. "It’s a tight short track that requires you to get up on the wheel and wrestle the car. The strategy throughout the race also can be your friend or foe.

“Of course, the 2018 race was emotional and special to me and my team as its my hometown track and Gus (Dean) took us back to Victory Lane. We look forward to that opportunity to defend our title in 2019.”

Elko Speedway first hosted the ARCA Racing Series in 2012 in a race won by Brennan Poole. Frank Kimmel won in 2013 en route to his tenth series championship, and 2015 series champ Grant Enfinger won the 2014 event. After a one-season hiatus in 2016, Elko returned to the schedule in 2017 with Austin Theriault winning on his way to the series title.
