ARCA Extends Condolences to Family of Jerry Herbst

ARCA extends its condolences to the family of legendary off-road racer Jerry Herbst, who passed away at his home on Tuesday. He was 80 years old.

Herbst, the grandfather of 2017 ARCA Racing Series rookie of the year Riley Herbst, was a familiar face in the ARCA Racing Series garage area over the last two seasons, and although the younger Herbst is making his name as a stock car driver, his grandfather is known for his off-road racing exploits as well as his business empire. The Terrible Herbst company has over 160 convenience stores, gas stations, car washes, and lube stations throughout Nevada.

Herbst was inducted into the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame for his exploits behind the wheel. He won his class in the Mint 400 and Baja 500 in 1970, and finished third in the 1971 Baja 1000. Once he retired as a driver, he stayed active in the sport as a team owner and race promoter.

Riley Herbst, a third-generation driver, will be honored for his third place finish in the ARCA Racing Series standings as the series awards banquet on Saturday, December 8 at the Indiana State Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis.
