Daytona Countdown: 66

Daytona Countdown: 66

There are 66 days until the kickoff of the 2019 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season. No better way to count it down than some numerological ARCA history...

Mark Thompson made his 100th career ARCA start in his only appearance of 2018 at Daytona. Driving his familar No. 66 with sponsorship from his company, Phoenix Air, Thompson's day was unfortunately cut short due to an incident with eleven laps to go.

Thompson became the oldest General Tire Pole Award winner in Daytona history when he started P1 in 2015, his first series pole in 18 years.

With two career wins as a driver to his credit - both in 1997 at Charlotte and Michigan - Thompson was also a successful car owner. Veteran Bob Strait piloted Thompson's cars to wins in 1999 at Talladega and in 2000 at Atlanta. Strait finished second in the series standings that season with nine top five and 14 top ten finishes.

Phoenix Air operates worldwide charter passenger and cargo flights. The company specializes in corporate, military, and air ambulance charters.

The 2019 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season starts with the Lucas Oil 200 driven by General Tire at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, February 9. Fox Sports 1 will broadcast the race live, with start time to be announced soon. ARCARacing.com will have complete event coverage, including live timing & scoring and track updates, free for registered users.
