Daytona Countdown: 68

Daytona Countdown: 68

There are 68 days until the kickoff of the 2019 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season. No better way to count it down than some numerological ARCA history...

In 2016, Dale Shearer teamed with Kimmel Racing to open the season at Daytona International Speedway. The Alhambria, Illinois resident, who has a total of 31 career starts dating back to 2008, is a frequent entrant for the two Illinois dirt races.

In 2015, Shearer attempted to qualify for the Daytona race with his own No. 73 Ford, but couldn't find the speed in time trials to lock into the field. In 2016, a partnership with Bill Kimmel brought added speed and a fall-back if needed, a provisional starting position.

Shearer started 35th, stayed out of trouble all day long and finished a respectable 25th, four laps off the pace.

Shearer made one start in 2018. He qualified 18th and finished 20th at Salem. His best career finish, also in 2016, was an eleventh-place run at Springfield.

The 2019 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season starts with the Lucas Oil 200 driven by General Tire at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, February 9. Fox Sports 1 will broadcast the race live, with start time to be announced soon. ARCARacing.com will have complete event coverage, including live timing & scoring and track updates, free for registered users.
