Ed Pompa and Andy Hillenburg Honor Ol' DW with Salem Throwback

Team owner Andy Hillenburg, the 1995 ARCA Menards Series national champion, and driver Ed Pompa (No. 11 Milwaukee Crusher/Double H Ranch No. 11 Toyota) have released their throwback scheme for Saturday night's Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic 200 at Salem Speedway.

Pompa has participated with a throwback every year, most recently honoring car owner Hillenburg's championship season. This year he will honor three-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion and former Salem Speedway ASA winner Darrell Waltrip.

“With Darrell retiring from the broadcast booth this year, I thought it would be cool to do a DW throwback, as a ‘thank you’," Pompa said. "We are running the No. 11, which Darrell ran at various times, but this particular scheme was from his No. 17.

"I have been working with Frontline Designs on this idea since January. Frontline had planned to do the car September 4th, which involved stripping last years’ wrap and installing the new one. Hurricane Dorian delayed the wrapping of the car by almost a week. Rick finished it up Monday night. Now the guys at the shop, Mike, Dick, Jay, Steve and Keith will be hustling to finish up the car. It will be interesting to see the reaction when we roll this car out of the hauler at Salem. There shouldn’t be any problems spotting this car on the track!”

ARCA's throwback weekend at Salem dates back to the 100th series race at the historic 0.555-mile banked oval. Pompa enjoys the energy and enthusiasm the event generates, from the teams to the fans.

“Everyone at Salem really gets into the throwback race," he said. "The pre-race autograph session is a lot of fun. I can remember way back when I was younger, getting drivers’ autographs at the local track. It’s a great way to say ‘thanks’ to all the fans who come out and support the local tracks and our racing series. Salem Speedway under the lights is always a blast.”

Pompa has been a part of the ARCA Menards Series for several years, and has had a lot of support over those seasons to support, what he calls, his mid-life crisis.

“Thank you to everyone that has been on the race car this year for helping support the Double H Ranch," he said. "Green Renewable Inc., Finger Lakes Mulch & Soil, Milwaukee Crusher Co., Burt Crane, Beck’s Garden Supplies, Pompa Bros. Inc., Turn One Condos, T-Shirt Graphics and Barb & Jay Biondi. Through their contributions, The Double H Ranch has been able to help a bunch of kids make memories that will last a lifetime. Go to www.doublehranch.org to learn more about this amazing facility and their mission. A special thanks to my wife for her support. She jokingly refers to my ARCA racing as therapy for my mid-life crisis.”

The ARCA Menards Series will be joined by the Lucas Oil Great American Stocks at Salem Speedway on Saturday night, September 14. Activities will kick off with ARCA Menards Series practice at 12 noon ET, followed by General Tire Pole Qualifying at 4 pm ET. The Great American Stocks 50-lap feature will roll at 5 pm ET, with the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic 200 set for 7:15 pm ET. The race will be televised live flag-to-flag on MAVTV.
