Rookie Barnes Holds off Veteran Kimmel for Toledo Checkers

Becomes Record 16th Different Winner in 18 Races
TOLEDO OH (9-1-06)—ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie Chuck Barnes, Jr., in C.E. Clower’s No. 35 Crown Spray Power Chevrolet, led veteran Frank Kimmel around Toledo Speedway in the closing laps of the Hantz Group 200 presented by Belle Tire and It’s Mighty Ezy to win in his career-first series attempt. 

The 24-year-old driver also became the 16th different winner in 18 events in 2006, setting a record for the most different winners in a single season for the 54-year-old ARCA RE/MAX Series sanction. Barnes also became the 11th first-time winner this season, which is also a RE/MAX Series record.  

Barnes is most familiar for competing in the CRA Super Series and in Late Models near his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, where his close proximity to Kimmel allowed for the free-flow of knowledge and information....

Stremme, in a No. 40 Coors Light Dodge, earned his career first ARCA RE/MAX Series Pork Pole award Friday with a speed of 163.660 mph around the tricky 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway triangle.

LONG POND PA (7-21-06) - Seven-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Frank Kimmel earned his 40th career Pork Pole Award Friday afternoon at Pocono Raceway. It was also his 19th career superspeedway Pork Pole thereby becoming the all-time series superspeedway pole winner, breaking the tie he and Tim Steele held. 

Kimmel posted a speed of 165.004 mph around the Pocono Raceway triangle, his second Pork Pole Award of 2006.

BROOKLYN MI (8-17-06) - Brent Sherman posted the quickest lap around Michigan Int’l Speedway Thursday afternoon, earning his second career Pork Pole award in the ARCA RE/MAX Series with a speed of 184.601 mph. As a result, Sherman will start on the pole for Friday’s Hantz Group 200 in his No. 04 Serta Mattress Ford. 

Sherman was especially complimentary towards his crew during Pork Pole award ceremonies.
