Beale's Amazing Championship Revived; USAC Rollie Beale 150 at Toledo Speedway Saturday

(TOLEDO, Ohio - October 16, 2010) - In Toledo, Ohio, news crews still point cameras at 80-year-old Rollie Beale. A Toledo icon and racing legend since the 1940s, Beale's name is again in the headlines. The 1973 USAC National Sprint Car champion and present-day ARCA District Commissioner will also have his name all over this Saturday's (October 16) Toledo Speedway season finale. The USAC Silver Crown Series "Rollie Beale 150" is set to roll on the historic Toledo half-mile, the site where Beale thrilled thousands and thousands of fans over the years.

Simko, St. Denis Suspended

(9-25-06) - As a result of their unsportsmanlike actions during Sunday’s Glass City 200 ARCA Late Model race at Toledo Speedway, drivers Michael Simko and Don St. Denis have been suspended from further participation in ARCA sanctioned racing events for an indefinite period of time. The suspensions were issued for violation of ARCA Rulebook Section 3, #10: Conduct or actions detrimental to the sport, unsportsmanlike driving, fighting, and/or taking part in any demonstration which impedes the orderly process of an event shall be subject to penalty.

TOLEDO OH (1-10-07) – It’s May 29, 2005. The car is upside down. The car is everywhere on fire. The driver, also on fire, cannot see or breathe. But he can feel, oh how he can feel the pain. With one key sense rendered unusable, and without the ability to take in air, he had to somehow pause, assess the situation, and think....a sense he, quite fortunately, took full advantage of. If he could figure out how to extricate himself, he could then deal with the pain. But, first things first; first he must find a way out, or he would not live another day.   

“I was this close to giving up,” said ARCA icon Ron Allen, measuring the distance with a burnt index finger and thumb. But he didn’t give up. “I started to think it was my time. Then I thought I’d try this one more time…..to figure a way out.” This time it worked. Allen finally freed himself from the inferno and wiggled away dazed and badly burned. ...

Tony Venturini Dies

(2-1-06) - Tony Venturini, father of two-time ARCA RE/MAX Series national driving champion Bill Venturini and grandfather of current series competitor Billy Venturini, died Wednesday, February 1st after a long, courageous battle with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. He was 77. 

Tony, of Chicago, Illinois, was the first line of three generations of Venturini’s who competed in motorsports. Tony began his career racing jalopies at Soldier’s Field in Chicago in 1952....

25th Glass City 200 coming to Toledo Sept. 28; time for a Joy Fair - Joe Ruttman flashback

(TOLEDO, Ohio - September 10, 2013) - In 1968, Toledo Speedway promoter and ARCA founder John Marcum came up with the idea of running a 200 lap Late Model invitational - the Glass City 200. Despite a 20-year hiatus (1978-1998), the race was revived in 1999 when Marcum's grandson, Ron Drager, purchased the track with business partner Roy Mott.
