Coming from a family full of racecar drivers Richie has been involved in racing all his life. Richie started his racing career when he was 20 years old. He raced on a half-mile dirt track in a street stock at Perris Auto Speedway, which was also the place where he was able to record his first main event win of his career. He then moved onto pavement in the NASCAR Grand American Modified tour. From there, he moved to the West Coast Pro Trucks where he was Rookie of the Year. In 2004 Richie added the NASCAR Late Models, finishing 11th in Late Model points. In 2005 Richie began racing full time in the NASCAR Late Model series at Irwindale Speedway and finished 10th in points. He finished 9th in points the following year. Altman made his ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards debut at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in April of 2015, finishing a career-best 17th after qualifying a career-best 22nd. He also finished 25th at Iowa Speedway and 27th at Michigan Int'l Speedway.
