Sean Corr Ready for Daytona Redemption

Throughout his ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards career, Sean Corr has proven to be adept at the art of restrictor plate racing. The Goshen, New York native has a pair of top-five finishes to his credit, one each at Daytona and Talladega, and a pole at Daytona on his resume as well.

Corr looked to be in position to make the team from “consistent threat” to “winner” last February. He was battling Sheldon Creed for the lead, leading the outside line of cars coming to the checkered flag on an overtime dash to the finish when the four cars at the front of the field all made contact. Corr, Chase Purdy, and Travis Braden all made signifant contact with the wall, relegating Corr to 20th at the finish. He led 16 laps on the day and had nothing but a crashed car to show for it.

Fast forward to Daytona, 2019. Corr and the Empire Racing team have returned to Daytona with renewed optimism. The team acquired the assetts of Mason Mitchell Motorsports at the end of 2018 meaning a significant equipment upgrade in the race shop. Corr’s Daytona car was rebuilt after another tangle at Talladega, and he recently shook it down in the series’ annual pre-season test at Daytona.

The No. 43 Empire Racing Group Chevrolet, carrying the traditional Petty blue colors, was 18th overall on the time sheets. Corr’s fast lap in the draft was 181.561 miles per hour.

“The car has been pretty evil by itself,” he said. “We had to reclip it after Talladega last year and we’re still learning the best setup for the shock mounts and suspension setup. It’s been great in the draft, which is a good thing since that’s where you’re going to spend all your time in the race. We’re really looking forward to getting back here. We had a great race last year and just got caught up in something we really didn’t have anything to do with at the end. If we can stay out of everyone else’s mess this year we think we’re going to be okay.”

The first official track activity of the season will come on Thursday, February 7 when the teams receive two hours of practice starting at 4 pm ET. There will be another hour of practice on Friday, February 8 starting at 9:30 am ET followed by General Tire Pole Qualifying at 3:30 pm ET. The green flag will wave over the expected 40-car field in the Lucas Oil 200 driven by General Tire at 4:30 pm ET on Saturday, February 9.
