Derrick Lancaster On Point for Lucas Oil 200 at Daytona

After a one-year hiatus, Derrick Lancaster will return to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Lucas Oil 200 driven by General Tire in 2019. Lancaster, from Christiansburg, Virginia, will be making his fourth start at Daytona and will be doing so with team owner Steven Lane’s new On Point Motorsports organization.

Lancaster finished a career-best sixth at Talladega in 2014, but hasn’t had the luck needed to finish up front at Daytona. The new combination with On Point Motorsports has Late Model Stock Car veteran optimistic about his chances.

“I am very excited about getting to Daytona for the ARCA race,” Lancaster said. “I have always been able to have great equipment and great help when I race. But now it feels like I have the total package with On Point Motorsports and everything involved with this deal.”

As an owner-driver, Lancaster was responsible for all aspects of getting to the track and then being competitive once he got there. Driving for an established team and not having to focus on the business end of the sport is a relaxing feeling.

“I can now just focus on driving the car and not having to do all of the business side also,” he said. “This is very helpful as I am at the age where most drivers are retiring but I have been fortunate enough to be put into one of the best positions I ever have been in as a race car driver. Additionally, it is exciting in helping the guys at On Point Motorsports launch their ARCA program which is designed to be a support tool for their NASCAR program.”

On Point Motorsports also fields a NASCAR Gander Outdoor Truck Series team which recently announced former ARCA winner Brennan Poole as its driver. The team recorded its best finish last season, 8th at Las Vegas, with 2017 ARCA champion Austin Theriault driving.

The team’s ARCA effort was strong out of the box at the recent two-day test at Daytona. Lancaster was seventh on the combined speed chart with a fast lap at 182.072 miles per hour.

“We had a very strong No. 29 Toyota Camry a few weeks ago down at the Daytona test and I look forward to going back next week and showing my abilities as a race car driver,” he said. “Our goal is to go down there and put on a strong showing and hopefully be standing there at the end and give ourselves a chance.”

The first official track activity of the season will come on Thursday, February 7 when the teams receive two hours of practice starting at 4 pm ET. There will be another hour of practice on Friday, February 8 starting at 9:30 am ET followed by General Tire Pole Qualifying at 3:30 pm ET. The green flag will wave over the expected 40-car field in the Lucas Oil 200 driven by General Tire at 4:30 pm ET on Saturday, February 9.
