Brandon McReynolds, No. 28 US Work Boats Toyota Event Recap: Daytona

KBR Development competed in its first ever superspeedway race tonight at an overcast Daytona International Speedway. Round one of the 2019 ARCA Menards Series season saw a competitive race throughout the field.

Brandon McReynolds, driver of the #28 US Workboats, Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort car that was designed in tribute to the late Davey Allison, battled up front for much of the night. After starting 11th, the team decided to drop out of the main draft pack, as a precaution. After connecting with Todd Gilliland and a long first green flag run, Brandon would charge back through the field. Caution just before halfway would bring the #28 to pit road for fuel only, the sole stop of the day.

Following a few more cautions, McReynolds was again digging his way through the field and ultimately ran inside the top-ten for much of the 80-lap race. With just a handful of laps remaining, Brandon McReynolds was tandem drafting with Todd Gilliland, when the #28 got turned around while racing inside the top five.

Although disappointed with the result, McReynolds, team owner Mike Bursley, and the entire KBR Development group feel good about the way the car ran all weekend, with a strong chance to win. McReynolds was unofficially scored 25th, completing 78 of the originally scheduled 80 laps.

Brandon McReynolds Quote:
Really good day with our US Workboats, Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort car. I can’t thank Mike, Zach and the whole team enough for giving me the shot to come down here. Obviously hate that the car got tore up, but I think myself and Todd Gilliland showed how its done. Happy for Harrison that he got the win. I think we were going to blow those guys doors off pretty easily there. Got hooked a little bit by the 4 and around we went. It was awesome to be charging forward and hopefully we can do it again. I think we made everyone aware that we were here, so that was good.

Larry McReynolds Quote:
The biggest thing, my dad hat is not on right now. I stood up there and watched every corner of every lap, mainly through binoculars. There is not a thing that I saw he could have done differently there from lap one until the wreck. He played all the cards right and did exactly what he needed to do, when he needed to do it. That last restart when he and Todd jumped to the top the minute they crossed the start finish-line. Like I told him, my dad hat is not on. But had I not known any better, I would’ve thought there was a 20-year veteran in that KBR racecar just based on the moves he made on the race track.

KBR Development will now prepare for event two of the 2019 season (March 9), where Carson Hocevar will climb behind the wheel at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.
