Dr. Lara Carlson to Lead Motorsports Safety Group Seminar on Physiological Stresses in Motorsports at Five Flags

Officials from the Automobile Racing Club of America announced today that Motorsports Safety Group would be hosting their second Safety Seminar of 2019 on Saturday, March 9 at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL.

Dr. Jason Cormier, founder of Motorsports Safety Group and one of the country’s leading neurosurgeons, has invited his colleague Dr. Lara Carlson to deliver the brief presentation at Five Flags Speedway, the first short track event of the year for the ARCA Menards Series.

“Dr. Carlson has given some of the most intriguing data driven presentations across the country, including speaking at the International Council of Motorsports Science, NASCAR and many others,” Dr. Cormier commented. “We are excited to have her as part of the Motorsports Safety Group Team as we push towards establishing the new standard for safety in racing!”

Dr. Carlson, a member of the Medical Advisory Board for the Motorsports Safety Group, will conduct the seminar on Saturday morning, March 9. The topic of the seminar will include results from the research she has conducted on the Physiological Stress Drivers encounter, both on-track and off.

“Drivers are indeed athletes, and science proves it!” Dr. Carlson stated regarding the Pensacola Seminar. “My research quantifies the physiological stresses drivers encounter during competition, and therefore, they need to start thinking and preparing as such.”

Dr. Carlson is the Founder and President of the Carlson Laboratory, which is dedicated to the advancement of scientific research, and providing educational and practical information focused on the safety, health and performance of athletes. Her expertise covers the entire landscape of strength conditioning and physiology in both collegiate and professional athletes, and she’s also guided studies that directly affect the performance of racer athletes.

Dr. Carlson will present a twenty-minute session at the Five Flags Speedway half-mile oval, immediately following the days Driver/Spotter meeting. The Seminar, scheduled for 10:30 AM, will include material specifically related to race drivers physiological stress. Attendance for all entered drivers is required, and the seminar is open to all licensed participants. Crew Chiefs and car owners are encouraged to attend. Practice and qualifying activities for Saturday’s Pensacola 200 will follow.

The Pensacola seminar will be the second of numerous scheduled meetings with Motorsports Safety Group in 2019. Additional Safety Seminars are tentatively scheduled in conjunction with the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 at Salem Speedway April 14; again at Toledo Speedway the weekend of May 18-19; and Thursday, May 23 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Dr. Cormier formed the Motorsports Safety Group to create a means by which to promote health, wellness and preventative practices within the sport of auto racing. Dr. Cormier crafted this strategic partnership with the ARCA Safety Initiative Program to form a “Motorsports Healthcare Education Plan,” a high profile, interactive activation designed to reach millions of race fans throughout the country. The Motorsports Safety Group’s support of the ARCA Safety Initiative was announced at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in December of 2016.
