Motorsports Safety Group Seminar at Chicagoland to Focus on Brain and Spine Injury Prevention

Motorsports Safety Group To Host Seminar at Chicagoland Speedway

Educational Safety Session Scheduled for Race Day Morning

Officials from the Automobile Racing Club of America announced today that Motorsports Safety Group will again be hosting a Safety Seminar at Chicagoland Speedway Thursday, June 27.

Dr. Jason Cormier, founder of Motorsports Safety Group and one of the country’s leading neurosurgeons, will present a thirty-minute session at Chicagoland Speedway immediately following the days Driver/Spotter/Crew Chief meeting. The Seminar, scheduled for 11:00 AM Central, will include material directly related to race drivers and crew members, and health matters specific to spine and brain injury and treatment. Attendance for all entered drivers is required, and the seminar is open to all licensed participants. Crew Chiefs and car owners are encouraged to attend. Practice and qualifying activities for the Bounty 150 will follow.

“Spine and brain injury is my day job,” Dr. Cormier stated. “Helping the drivers understand how racing can affect their spine and brain is important for them, and important to me. Knowing the symptoms of injury can make the difference between short term and long term problems.”

With his surgical background, Cormier has begun engaging companies to establish new technologies to diagnose and rehabilitate head injuries. He is now focusing his efforts on prevention.

Through Cormier’s work with racecar drivers, he has found that very few have the desire to alter their racing styles, so preventative measures are best taken before the racing begins.

The Chicagoland Speedway seminar will be the fourth scheduled meeting with Motorsports Safety Group in 2019. Additional Safety Seminars are pending, and further information will be announced shortly.

Dr. Cormier formed the Motorsports Safety Group to create a means by which to promote health, wellness and preventative practices within the sport of auto racing. Dr. Cormier crafted this strategic partnership with the ARCA Safety Initiative Program to form a “Motorsports Healthcare Education Plan,” a high profile, interactive activation designed to reach millions of race fans throughout the country. The Motorsports Safety Group’s support of the ARCA Safety Initiative was announced at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in December of 2016.
