NEWTON, Iowa. — Sam Mayer has been quick everywhere this season, and so far, Iowa has been no different.
The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender was quickest in a pair of practice sessions in preparation for the Casey’s General Store 150 from Iowa Speedway, turning a circuit of 24.501 seconds in the second session.

Mayer has visited Iowa twice before, both coming last season. The Franklin, Wisconsin native finishing 17th in the K&N Pro Series and 10th in the ARCA Menard’s Series events in Newton.
Ty Gibbs (24.992), Tanner Gray (24.986), Spencer Davis (25.090) and Ruben Garcia Jr. (25.110) completed the top five combined practice speeds.
Chase Cabre, winner of the last two K&N Pro Series East races, championship points leader Derek Kraus, Hailie Deegan, Max McLaughlin and Jagger Jones completed the top 10 speeds.

K&N East regulars occupied seven of the top 10 spots once the 100 combined minutes of practice concluded.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series returns to the track for qualifying at 5 p.m. CDT on Friday evening. The Casey’s General Store 150 will go green at approximately 7:30 p.m. FansChoice.TV will have live coverage of the event.
