DOVER, Del. — Championship aside, Sam Mayer has one more box to check off in 2019.
And he seems in prime position to do so, as his No. 21 Chevrolet Accessories Chevrolet for GMS Racing was quickest in practice for the General Tire 125 at Dover International Speedway on Friday afternoon.
His quick lap (23.251 seconds) came on his 19th of 31 laps in the 80-minute session. Mayer needs to finish 27th or better to clinch the 2019 K&N Pro Series East championship, and will do so once the green flag flies at 5 p.m. EDT today.
