LAS VEGAS – Sam Mayer’s target of sweeping the ARCA Menards Series East and West openers is off to a fast start.
The 16-year-old from Franklin, Wisconsin, captured the General Tire Pole Award Thursday afternoon at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in advance of the evening’s Star Nursery 150. It is the opening race for the ARCA Menards Series West.
Mayer already won the East opener earlier in the month at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway, and was fastest in practice at Las Vegas before rocketing to the pole in qualifying. Mayer posted a lap of 14.611 seconds (92.396 mph) in the No. 21 Spencer Clark Foundation Chevrolet.
STAR NURSERY 150 QUALIFYING RESULTS
Mayer shattered the old West track record set by Greg Pursley in 2011 of (90.144) around the .375-mile oval. It is Mayer’s second career West pole and first under the ARCA Menards Series banner.
