SPARTA, Ky. — Sam Mayer utilized nearly the entire one-hour practice session Saturday to squeeze in 39 laps, and in the end, he got the best one of the field.
Mayer piloted the No. 21 Chevy Accessories Chevrolet around the 1.5-mile tri-oval in 30.199 seconds (178.814 mph) in a lap near the end of the practice for the afternoon’s General Tire 150 to claim the top time.

He knocked championship points leader Michael Self to second. Self had a lap of 30.289 (178.283).

Hailie Deegan was third fastest at 30.379 (177.754), followed by Ty Gibbs and Bret Holmes.
Ryan Repko, Tanner Gray, Drew Dollar, Thad Moffitt and Scott Melton completed the top 10.
The field for the General Tire 150 was set by owner’s points, which means that Self and Rekpo will start on the front row, with Gibbs and Dollar in Row 2. Mayer will start 15th.
The General Tire 150 is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. live on FS1 and MRN Radio.
