PRACTICE: Ty Gibbs edges Corey Heim for best lap at Elko

ELKO NEW MARKET, Minn. — Ty Gibbs dominated the last time the ARCA Menards Series raced on a short track, when he won the Herr’s Potato Chips 200 a couple months ago at Toledo Speedway.

The speed the 18-year-old showed in Saturday’s practice session at Elko Speedway suggests the driver of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota will once again be the one to beat on a short track in the evening’s Menards 250 (9 p.m. CT / 10 p.m. ET on MAVTV and TrackPass).

Gibbs paced the field in the hour-long session with a best lap time of 15.561 seconds, just 0.030 seconds better than second-place Corey Heim’s time of 14.591 seconds.

Heim, the ARCA Menards Series championship points leader through eight races, leads Gibbs by three points heading into the Elko race.

Taylor Gray, Gracie Trotter and Jesse Love rounded out the top five in practice.
