Clifford Leon “Cliff” Hamm, who drove in the ARCA Menards Series from 1968-73, died May 5, 2022, in Greenfield, Indiana. He was 84.
Driving car No. 75 out of his home race shop in Indiana, Hamm won 1968 ARCA Rookie of the Year honors in the same season Benny Parsons won his first ARCA Series championship.
Hamm, whose best point finish of seventh came in 1971, drove in the majority of the races on the ARCA schedule for six seasons and had 26 top-10 and 10 top-five finishes. He recorded top-fives at Salem Speedway, Baer Field Raceway, Toledo Speedway, Sharon Speedway, Dayton Speedway, LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway and Wisconsin International Raceway with a best finish of third at Toledo, Sharon and Dayton. His best superspeedway finish was 11th at Daytona in 1969.
Hamm worked as a mechanic for International Harvester (Navistar) for 32 years and is survived by his wife LaFaye Sue, two children, two siblings, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
