HARRISBURG, N.C. – When the ARCA Menards Series rolls into the Finger Lakes for the yearly trip to Watkins Glen International, race fans will welcome back a familiar face.
For the first time in more than two years, Matt Wilson will be piloting a Stock Car on the national stage and is more than ready to show off his road racing chops.
Honing his skills the past two years at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, the Hot Springs, Arkansas, real estate developer has been an active competitor in the COMMA series during his absence from ARCA competition.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to race at Watkins Glen with the Fast Track team,” Wilson said. “I’ve had this race circled on my calendar since last season, waiting on the right opportunity to present itself. The Fast Track team has great equipment and some of the best people you will meet in the ARCA garage and I’m excited to see what we can put together out there.”
His Watkins Glen start will also mark a return to the Fast Track stable, where Wilson scored his first ARCA platform top-10 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway during his debut race in partnership with CCM Racing. The No. 11 car he will pilot will be hard to miss on the track, carrying joint sponsorship from K1 Speed Rogers and Jason’s Pro Detail in a striking Red, White and Blue paint scheme.
“We look forward to having Matt back in the ARCA Series with us at Fast Track,” said team owner Andy Hillenburg. “This will be a fun weekend and hopefully a great finish for Matt and the No. 11 car.”
With the team’s recent 11th-place performance at Lime Rock, and with Wilson’s experience on the road, both team and driver are looking forward to the challenge the Glen will bring with it.
“I’ve had lots of seat time on road courses over the last few years, and the majority of that has been road racing a stock car,” Wilson said. “I’ve also been doing lots of sim-work and training in preparation for this race. Watkins Glen is a fast, flowing track with hard braking zones and only a couple good places to make clean passes. It’s going to be a challenge but I’m ready for it. We’ll see how we stack up. I can’t wait.”
The ARCA Menards Series General Tire 100 at The Glen will be ran on Aug. 8 and will be televised live on FS2 at 2 p.m. ET. The race will also be broadcast on select affiliates of the MRN Radio Network nationwide and live timing and scoring data is available at ARCARacing.com.
