AVONDALE, Ariz. — Ty Gibbs won the General Tire Pole Award Friday afternoon for the evening’s General Tire 150 at Phoenix Raceway.
After being fastest in practice earlier in the day in the No. 18 Monster Energy/ORCA Toyota, he laid down a 27.507-second (130.876 mph) lap in the 20-minute group qualifying session.
Gibbs is looking for his first win of the 2020 season at the track where he took the checkered flag to close out the 2019 West Series season.
This is Gibb’s third career pole in the ARCA Menards Series.

Venturini Motorsports teammates Michael Self and Chandler Smith qualified second and third, respectively. Self, who won the season opener at Daytona, had a lap of 27.703 (129.950), while Smith had a lap of 27.713 (129.903). Sam Mayer and Thad Moffitt completed the top five.
Drew Dollar, Jesse Love, Tanner Gray, Hailie Deegan and Zane Smith round out the top 10.
The green flag for the General Tire 150 is scheduled to drop at 5 p.m. MST on FS1 and MRN.
