INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Michael Self waited until nearly the last minute, but then put down the best lap of the day.
The ARCA Menards Series championship points leader posted the fastest lap in the 45-minute practice session Friday for the evening’s Calypso Lemonade 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway.
Self piloted the No. 25 Sinclair Lubricants Toyota around the .686-mile oval in 22.390 seconds (110.299 mph) on the 24th of his 26 laps.

In doing so, he knocked 15-year-old Taylor Gray off the top spot. Gray had been atop the leaderboard with his lapof 22.509 (109.716) before settling for second quick overall. Ty Gibbs was third fastest at 22.582 (109.357).
Sam Mayer and Derek Griffith were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Thad Moffitt was sixth, followed by Hailie Deegan, Chandler Smith, Drew Dollar and Bret Holmes.
Qualifying is slated for 5:45 p.m., while the Calypso Lemonade 200 is scheduled to go green at 8 p.m. The race will be live on MAVTV and streaming on TrackPass on NBC Gold.
