PIT BOX: ARCA Menards Series’ short track stretch continues at Berlin Raceway

For the second straight week, the ARCA Menards Series heads to a Midwestern short track as Michigan’s Berlin Raceway plays host to the Zinsser SmartCoat 200.

The race, which is also the third leg of the 2022 Sioux Chief Showdown, is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET and will be available live on MAVTV and FloRacing. Radio coverage of the event will be available on ARCARacing.com.

Saturday’s race at the 0.438-mile oval is the seventh race of the ARCA Menards Series season and the 22nd time the series has competed at Berlin Raceway. Daniel Dye, making his second career ARCA Menards Series start, earned his first series victory last season at Berlin.

Tickets to Saturday’s Zinsser SmartCoat 200 are available. Below is everything to know about the event.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

Menards Arca Race Logos HorizontalDye is in need of a strong run after two disappointing showings at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Iowa Speedway, so a trip to Berlin this Saturday could be just what the doctor ordered.

Dye earned his first — and thus far only — ARCA Menards Series win at the Michigan short track last year in only his second series start. He will look to earn a repeat trip to Victory Lane Saturday night, but he’ll have plenty of competition hoping to stop him.

That competition includes Rev Racing’s Nick Sanchez and Rajah Caruth, who are again tied at the top of the ARCA Menards Series standings entering the Zinsser SmartCoat 200. Of the two, only Sanchez has made an ARCA start at Berlin, finishing sixth last year.

Venturini Motorsports will bring a trio of cars to Berlin led by the returning Tom Hessert, who is scheduled to make his first ARCA Menards Series start since 2018. He’ll be joined on the Venturini squad by Jesse Love and Toni Breidinger.

David Gilliland Racing also joins the field at Berlin, with Phoenix Raceway victor Taylor Gray looking to earn his second ARCA Menards Series triumph of the season after mechanical issues thwarted him last week at Iowa Speedway.

Sammy Smith, who leads both the ARCA Menards Series East and Sioux Chief Showdown standings for Kyle Busch Motorsports, is also expected to be a contender when the green flag waves Saturday night.

Additional ARCA Menards Series regulars expected to compete Saturday at Berlin include Greg Van Alst, Amber Balcaen and Brad Smith, among others.

Two drivers are scheduled to make their ARCA platform debuts during the Zinsser SmartCoat 200. They include Rita Thomason, who is scheduled to drive Alex Clubb’s No. 03 Chevrolet, and Dallas Frueh, who will pilot the No. 27 Toyota fielded by David Richmond.
